Harare: – One of the leading telecommunications companies – NetOne – says it will continuously raise awareness on the importance of preserving the country’s natural resources, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Announcing their sponsorship of a fitness marathon in the capital on Monday, NetOne group chief executive officer Mr Raphael Mushanawani said they seek to inspire individuals to become custodians of the planet, supporting sustainable tourism practices and actively participating in environmental conservation efforts.

He emphasised the impact of environmental challenges on the stability and reliability of the company’s network infrastructure.

“The increasing frequency and intensity of veld fires threaten the stability and reliability of our network infrastructure, while deforestation disrupts the natural habitats of wildlife and reduces the efficacy of our signal transmission.

“By addressing these environmental challenges and actively participating in the rehabilitation of our ecosystems, we not only safeguard the integrity of our business operations but also contribute to the preservation of our planet for future generations.

“It is imperative that we raise awareness and take action against veld fires, deforestation, and the rehabilitation of our environment.

“Let us unite in the pursuit of a sustainable future, where the mobile telecommunications industry thrives alongside a healthy and vibrant environment,” he said.

NetOne supports reforestation initiatives in partnership with environmental organisations to restore and preserve vital ecosystems.

Mr Mushanawani said their company also recognizes the significance of promoting well-being and healthy lifestyles.

“By sponsoring the fitness marathon, the company aims to encourage physical fitness and inspire individuals of all ages to prioritize their well-being.

“NetOne believes that a healthy population leads to increased productivity, reduced healthcare costs, and an improved quality of life,” he said.
