Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando will address the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Harare Hippodrome in Braeside in Harare.
The two-day indaba is being held under the theme “Sustainable Mining: A Catalyst Towards National Development,” and runs from July 11th-12th, 2024.
ZMF President Ms Henrietta Rushwaya confirmed the Minister’s attendance and emphasised the organization’s alignment with the government’s push for sustainable mining practices.
“The ZMF enforces a zero-tolerance policy against environmental degradation,” Rushwaya said. “This includes deforestation, habitat destruction, pollution, soil erosion, human-wildlife conflict, and biodiversity loss.”
Ms Rushwaya highlighted the importance of responsible mining for environmental and economic reasons.
“We believe sustainable practices are essential not only for our planet’s health but also for the long-term prosperity of future generations,” she added.
She also said collaboration is needed to ensure mining contributes positively to national development while safeguarding Zimbabwe’s natural resources.
