Partnering with communities and conservation organisations is helping immensely in reducing human-wildlife conflict.
Speaking during the launch of Wildlife Conservation Action(WCA) strategic plan for 2024-2020 in Harare on Friday Environment, Climate and Wildlife Acting Permanent Secretary Mr Washington Zhakata said strategic partnerships will ensure long-term conservation success.
“The impressive 61.3% reduction in human-wildlife conflict incidents in Nyaminyami District over three years testifies to Wildlife Conservation Action’s effectiveness.
“This strategic plan marks a critical milestone in WCA’s journey outlining a clear vision for the future and fostering collaboration among stakeholders,” he said.
WCA executive director Dr Moreangels Mbizah said she is living her dream of helping make this world a better place not only for people but for wildlife as well.
“Today we stand at the threshold of a momentous journey as we launch our Strategic Plan for 2024-2028.
“As we move forward, we reflect on the remarkable progress we have made since 2019 when Wildlife Conservation Action was formed and appreciate the efforts that have brought us to this point, where we can now narrow our focus on the objectives and actionable strategies for the coming period,” she said.
“We will continue working towards our vision of human-wildlife coexistence. We believe that coexistence is possible, it is a dynamic state but we believe that costs on both sides of people and wildlife can be reduced to tolerable levels.”
