President Mnangagwa has introduced a series of impactful initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of war veterans, reinforcing his dedication to those who played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s liberation.
Among these initiatives is the Presidential War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme, designed to provide housing for over 1,000 rural-based war veterans.
Each province will receive an initial, interest-free allocation of US$150,000 to support income-generating projects. This fund, totaling US$1.5 million nationwide, is part of the government’s broader efforts to uplift veterans.
The War Veterans Rural Housing Scheme will deliver 100 houses per province, reflecting President Mnangagwa’s long-term vision for a brighter future for Zimbabwe’s war veterans.
By providing access to decent housing, the President honors the veterans’ sacrifices and their significant contributions to the nation’s liberation.
The fund has already been disbursed to several provinces, including Masvingo, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Bulawayo, and Midlands, with each province receiving US$150,000.
This initiative is expected to grow to US$10 million by June 2025, with each province set to receive US$1 million. These programs are part of a wider strategy by President Mnangagwa to support war veterans, including the Presidential Poultry Scheme, Presidential Input Schemes, and the Presidential Heifer Scheme, which have already benefited over 10,000 households across Zimbabwe.
“We are committed to improving the lives of our war veterans, who have sacrificed so much for our country’s freedom and independence.
These initiatives are designed to give them the support and resources they need to thrive,” said Dr. Tungwarara.
“We believe that providing decent housing is not just a necessity but a way of honoring their sacrifices and contributions to our liberation.”
Rev. Ngoni Motsi, a respected church leader, has praised Dr. Paul Tungwarara, President Mnangagwa’s advisor, for spearheading these empowerment programs.
“It is time to stand behind individuals like Dr. Tungwarara, who are dedicated to seeing Zimbabwe flourish in all aspects of life.”
The war veterans did not risk their lives to praise or protect any leader; they fought for Zimbabwe’s freedom and independence.
Patson Murimoga, a youth activist, has also shown strong support for the initiatives, highlighting that Dr. Tungwarara chose to leave a comfortable life in Dubai to serve the people of Zimbabwe.
