Former Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) national coordinator Welcome Shumba has called for unity and dialogue to address the country’s political and economic challenges.
Speaking in Harare, Shumba emphasized the importance of solidarity among Zimbabweans across the political divide.
Launched in 2019, POLAD was a platform that brought together at least 17 political parties that contested the 2018 harmonized elections to discuss various critical issues affecting Zimbabwe.
When POLAD was launched in 2019, President Emmerson Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of dialogue, noting that the culture of dialogue must be imprinted in the Zimbabwean social and political fabric.
POLAD was commended for providing a platform for participants in the 2018 harmonized elections, both those who secured seats and those who did not, to interact and share their views.
Expectations were that POLAD would continue to be a regular platform for discussing issues affecting the country.
However, in recent years, POLAD has been in a lull, with some suggesting it was facing collapse.
Nevertheless, with the country’s economic problems showing no signs of easing, there are growing calls for POLAD to be revived as a solution to the ongoing challenges facing Zimbabwe is sought.
