Irene Christian College (ICC) is preparing to hold a two-day Science Expo on June 27th and 28th, 2024, at the ICC campus at number 14 Adylinn Road in Marlborough, Harare.
The event is expected to be a lively celebration of science and innovation, bringing together 12 respected schools, including Prince Edward School, Mabvuku High School, Milestone College, Sacred Heart College, Forward In Faith Christian College, Christ Ministries, Queen Elizabeth Girls High, St John’s High School Emerald Hill, Heritage School, St. Ignatius College, and, of course, the hosts, Irene Christian College.
Ms Rumbidzai Goto, a teacher at Irene Christian College, shared her excitement for the event, emphasising the importance of the participating schools and their dedication to promoting STEM education.
“We are very happy to have these esteemed schools join us for this science celebration. These schools are leading the way in fostering curiosity and innovation among students,” said Ms. Goto.
The presence of the Indian Embassy at the Science Expo adds an international aspect to the event, with the Indian Ambassador set to give the main speech, providing a global view of the proceedings. Additionally, the District School Inspector’s attendance will highlight the educational community’s acknowledgement of the importance of such initiatives in nurturing young scientific minds.
Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) and the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), well-known higher education and research institutions, have been selected as judges for the science projects.
Their involvement not only enhances the event with their expertise but also gives students the chance to receive feedback from experienced professionals.
The Irene Science Expo is split into two distinct days, each with its unique focus. June 27th has been designated as the Expo and Careers Day, offering students the chance to showcase their scientific projects and take part in discussions about future career paths in the STEM fields.
On June 28th, the spotlight will be on the Award Ceremony Day, celebrating outstanding achievements and recognizing students for their innovative contributions to the scientific community.
Science fairs play a vital role in the educational journey of students as they encourage the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, nurturing their passion for science and technology.
