In a shocking and audacious act, a gang of robbers targeted a house in New Zengeza 5, Chitungwiza, making off with an astonishing sum of over US$8,000 in cash.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has left the community in disbelief and the victims traumatised.
In a communique, national police spokesperson Ass Comm Paul Nyathi said the armed robbers brazenly forced their way into the victims’ home, brandishing an unidentified pistol.
Once inside, they subjected the occupants to a terrifying ordeal, assaulting two victims before ransacking the premises for valuables.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police reports that Benjamin Chipiri aged 36 was arrested in connection with a case of robbery which occurred at a house in New Zengeza 5, Chitungwiza on Saturday 2 November 2023 in which Chipiri and four others yet to be identified male suspects who were armed with an unidentified pistol gained entrance into the victims’ house where they attacked two victims before stealing US$180-00 cash among other valuables.
‘’The two victims were left under the guard of one suspect while the other four suspects proceeded to the main bedroom where they attacked the third victim before taking US$ 8 060-00 cash which was in a briefcase,” reads part of the statement.
Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend the remaining four culprits, who are still at large and considered armed and dangerous.
The sheer amount of money stolen in this heist has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, highlighting the brazenness and sophistication of these criminals.
