Harare: – Southern Africa’s leading hospitality group – Cresta Hotels has revealed that it has spent more than US$3 million on the refurbishment of one of its oldest and most iconic hotels, Cresta Jameson in Harare.
In an exclusive interview with Digital Telegraph this Wednesday, the company’s managing director Chipo Mandela said they are confident the refurbishment will bear fruit now and in coming years.
“In the past three years, Cresta Jameson has undergone a major refurbishment programme, involving upgrading of all 123 bedrooms, refurbishment of all public areas and banqueting rooms and revamping of the main kitchen”
In addition, the well-known and much-loved Tiffany’s restaurant has been reopened after a 10-year hiatus, providing top-end dining facilities for residents and casual visitors.
“Guest security and privacy have been enhanced with control of access to guest facilities and certain public areas with the use of guest key cards to ensure that only guests can access these facilities.
“Parking is always an issue in the city centre, but Cresta Jameson has facilitated guest parking with a secure and well-managed private car park facility adjacent to the hotel building,” she added.
The hotel celebrated its 65th anniversary over the weekend, marking six and half decades of hospitality service to visitors from all over the world.
It was opened in 1958.
Mandela added that apart from the renovations, state-of-the-art video conferencing equipment has been installed in the hotel’s conference venues which allows delegates to link with other people anywhere in the world.
“This equipment uses broadband internet connectivity to ensure participants have interruption-free meetings in the comfort of their offices or in our hotel bedrooms.
“We are proud of this hotel and of its achievement of such a notable anniversary and we are certain that our continued confidence as shown by the refurbishment will bear fruit now and in coming years.”
Jameson Hotel is part of the Cresta Hotels group, which operates hotels in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, and is host to business and leisure travellers from local, regional and international source markets.
Cresta’s other properties in Zimbabwe include Cresta Lodge and Cresta Oasis in Harare, Cresta Churchill in Bulawayo and Cresta Sprayview in Victoria Falls.
