Burna Boy Named Biggest Star in Afrobeats, Whole of Africa by Grammy Organisers

The Recording Academy, organisers of the Grammy Awards, have described Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, as Afrobeats and Africa’s biggest artist.

This comes as Burna Boy bagged four Grammy nominations for the 2024 awards.

In a statement published on its website on Saturday, the Grammy Awards said, “There’s not a bigger star in Afrobeats, or even the whole of Africa itself, than Burna Boy. He nabbed two consecutive Best Global Album GRAMMY nods for his albums Twice as Tall and African Giant, and he’s also collaborated with global stars such as Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber.”

The Grammy Awards also congratulated Burna Boy on his four nominations for the 2024 awards, saying, “We’re so excited to see what he does next.”

Burna Boy has been a dominant force in the African music scene for over a decade. He is known for his energetic live performances, his eclectic mix of musical styles, and his outspoken advocacy for social justice issues.

Burna Boy’s declaration as the biggest star in Afrobeats by the Grammy organizers is a major achievement for the African music industry.

Burna Boy’s four Grammy nominations for the 2024 awards are for: “Sittin On Top Of The World” in the Best Melodic Rap category, “City Boys” in the Best African Performance category, “I Told Them” in the Best Global Music Album category and “Alone” in the Best Global Music Performance category.
