The Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) has launched its artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM) mechanization program in Zvishavane, Midlands Province as part of its Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) endeavors.
The mechanization program is in line with the government’s vision for the country to achieve upper middle-income economy status by 2030, while adhering to responsible mining and sourcing guidelines.
In a speech read on her behalf by ZMF vice president Mr Marufu Sithole, Ms Henrietta Rushwaya the president of the federation said the project will be replicated in all 8 mining districts in the country and is intended to benefit the youth.
She said the launch of the program was in response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for responsible mining in Zimbabwe.
“As part of our CSR, we saw it fit to empower the youths since they are the future and we also need to instill a sense of hard work into their lives.
“The project will be replicated in all 8 mining districts and is meant to benefit the ZMF youths. This is in response to President Mnangagwa’s call for responsible mining, which was launched in May 2022,” she said.
ZMF Matebeleland South Chairperson Philimon Mokoele said the mechanization and Symposium launch would help miners boost production.
He thanked the ZMF president for initiating the program to support youth in the mining industry.
“This is a very important program for the ZMF family. With mechanization and symposium launch supported by a company like WilliamBains, miners are going to increase production and help boost our economy. We also expect full support from the ZMF national executive for such events. It’s been a long time since we last saw any event from the national executive. Thank you, Madam President, for introducing such a beneficial program that also empowers our youths with compressors to start their mining operations,” he said.
